Collection 001 began with an ideal
THE ARRIVAL introduced the NICILIAN woman in a world built entirely around what Nicole imagined for her: beauty, ease, friendship, femininity, and freedom. She is on the water, surrounded by women, dressed beautifully, with nowhere she needs to be.
The clothes carried the same logic. Silhouettes were clear and fluid. Natural silk moved against the body. Ties let pieces shift and adjust with the wearer. The first look was the Kia Tank and the California Miniskirt, named for Nicole's childhood best friend and for the silhouettes of the place she grew up.
Nothing in that collection was weathered. Nothing had been let go.

Collection 002 begins when the ideal meets reality
CANNOT COME BEFORE I GO begins after the ship crashes into the shore and finds it is not the shore that was pictured. Beauty still exists there. It now sits alongside difficulty, uncertainty, and the recognition that arriving somewhere new does not by itself create the life that was imagined.
The title states the collection's argument plainly. To arrive somewhere new, something has to be released first...an expectation, an identity, a place, or a version of yourself. The going has to come before the coming.
What changed in the clothes
The shift is tactile before it is anything else. Where 001 was fluid, 002 adds dimension to the same silks.
- The diamond. NICILIAN's fabric manipulation, a lattice of pintucked silk worked directly into the cloth. It gives a flat weave depth and shadow.
- Braided rope details. Silk drawn into cord, used at the waist and through the body of a garment.
- The setting-sun motif. Formed from mother-of-pearl, crystal, and metal, and carried across several looks.
- Cascading silk georgette. Layers that fall through a look rather than sitting still on it.
The softness of THE ARRIVAL remains. Its world has become more textured, weathered, and real.
The eleven looks, read in order
Collection 002 is sequenced as a passage rather than a set of separate pieces. Read from the first look to the last, it moves from stillness through disruption and back to steadiness.
It opens with the Exhale Set...a silk pajama silhouette reimagined for anywhere but the bedroom, finished in the diamond. The Anchor Blouse follows, for the moment when everything feels uncertain and something has to hold steady. Dusk marks the point just after the sun sets, an ending that still holds its light.
Then the movement starts. Cascade is the chain reaction, one shift setting another going. Braid traces the paths that cross...separate strands becoming one thing. Plume and Ripple are the first signs of rising again, lightness upward and movement outward.
The Float Skirt and Solana Halter sit at the centre of the collection. Solana is named for the beach in San Diego that Nicole visited with her grandmother, which grounds the look in a real place rather than an imagined one. Ease comes next, because ease comes with time. Blush is the first flush of color returning after a hollow period.
Vesper is evening arriving, the quiet after the setting sun, the same uncertainty now carrying acceptance. The collection closes with the Center Dress. She returns to herself, grounded by what she has carried and by what she has released.

Why NICILIAN works only in regenerative silk
NICILIAN uses only natural fibres sourced from regenerative agriculture. In practice, for both collections, that has meant pure silk in two weights: silk twill and silk georgette.
The silk comes from Sichuan, China, a region with centuries of silk-making heritage and historical ties to the Silk Road. Mulberry trees are grown in biodiverse environments, providing fresh leaves for the silkworms while supporting healthier soils and more resilient agricultural systems.
The farms use regenerative practices including intercropping, rotational cropping, and terrace farming, which improve soil fertility, conserve water, and reduce reliance on synthetic inputs. Crops are protected through biological methods: ducks and chickens, organic mineral treatments, and solar-powered pest control.
This is the part of the brand that does not change between collections. The story moves. The material commitment does not.
Where the story goes next
001 imagined a place. 002 arrives there and finds out what arrival actually costs. Both collections are available to view in full in the NICILIAN lookbooks.

NICILIAN works exclusively in natural fibres from regenerative agriculture, principally pure silk in twill and georgette weights, sourced from Sichuan, China.
What is the NICILIAN diamond?

Where is NICILIAN based?
NICILIAN is a Dubai-based luxury ready-to-wear label founded in 2025 by Italian-American designer Nicole Al Rais. The garments are designed and made locally in Dubai.
